A night of debauchery
Prince Mirceo Daciano and his new friend, Caspion the Tracker, comb the streets of Dacia, drunkenly seeking out pleasures of the flesh. In what should have been a typical night, they coax a bevy of nymphs to bed. To impress their females, the demon and the vampire kiss on a dare.

Changes them forever
Once they finally break away from their soul-searing kiss, they find themselves alone--and shaken. Had they imagined their explosive chemistry? Obstacles--ranging from a death sentence to exile in a war-torn dimension--threaten to destroy their lives and the vulnerable promise in that one kiss.

How long can they resist the fire that blazes between them?
Even if Mirceo can accept Caspion as his fated mate, the seductive vampire still must convince the stubborn demon that their bond is forever. And any royal Dacian union must receive the blessing of King Lothaire, an unpredictable and savage killer. . . .

3 Disappointments in a row - Is the IAD Magic gone?
By Ashlee
My issues with this book:

(1) It's darker than her previous books. Where's the humor? Her zings, her one-liners, her cutthroat jabs - they are epic!

(2) The price. When I pay $12 for a book, I expect a lot of substance. Sadly this just points me in the direction of an author who went to hardcover sales and the series started tanking. The authors that make up this long list are esteemed, but no longer autobuy. I hate adding her name to it, but as much as I loved this series from the time the very first book was published, the last three have been lackluster (Lothaire and MacRieve were the last two truly phenomenal/rereadable books in the series). Then when you tag an HC price on a paperback novella, that's when I'm going to have an issue. And I'm going to show my displeasure with my wallet - it's time for me to wait for paperback. These books take forever to come out anyway - what's another 6-9 months of waiting?

(3) I didn't know these characters. M/M is not something I've ever read before, but here is my only issue with that: these were not established characters. If they had been, I would've been invested and hopeful for their story. I vaguely remembered Cas, but as Shadow's Claim is my very least favorite book of the series (I have much loathing for Bettina and her TSTL ways) I have never once reread it. Honestly, I felt when the Dacia spinoff was announced, it wasn't needed. Granted, I'm not the author, but she has a lot on her plate. This is the second Dacian book and they don't have the IAD feel. There are SO MANY characters waiting to get their own stories, I can't fathom why we wait years and years and all we get are two little known characters in this novella - and two unknown characters for the full-length book next month. It's very frustrating for the reader, who spends a lot of time anticipating this series and invests years of his/her life, only to still be waiting for Kristoff and Furie's book (promised back on her message boards over 8 years ago!), we're still waiting for Jadian and his fire demon, for the remaining Valkyries - this was originally a Valkyrie series! KC once said it was envisioned for every book to have a Valkyrie heroine, yet we still don't have a book for Cara and (presumably) Michael, for Annika, for Nix! I wasn't one of the readers screaming for Nix's story - she has a lot of threads in the story arc. But here's my worry: we are going to wait and wait and wait and wait some more for her book, with expectations growing with each year that goes by and we're getting these filler characters, and then when it finally happens... it's a whimper. Expectations grow too high and fans are ultimately disappointed because no author can live up to that, even one as talented as this one. And worse - what if she no longer cares about living up to it? What if she has lost her zeal for writing this series and we just get a closeout book for Nix that is not only disappointing, but wall-banging? I liken it to the Acheron phenomenon. There was nowhere to go but down. I don't want that for Nix - I want her to have an atomic blast, not a slight ripple and I can't see that happening if we're sitting here 3 years from now still wondering where her book is.

(4) Enough with the cliffhangers! We're going on 4 years now waiting on closure for Munro and his mate. You've hooked your readers - there's no need to be mean to them anymore. Give us closure with each book, but don't garrote us with the "Coming in the Distant Future" book. I guarantee, fans would be screaming for Munro's book anyway because he's one of the twins (and because MacRieve is a truly astounding piece of writing). We don't need to languish on the hook with that and now additional cliffhangers tacked onto the endings of the newest books - we're bleeding out here.

The guy on guy action is hot
By McDonough Mom
Don't get me wrong the guy on guy action is hot and paced very well for a novella. I think it is hard for an author to write a believable love story in such few words and Cole is the only one I've found who can accomplish it and accomplish it well. As believable as vampires and demons go, that is. But here is my beef with the story, number 1. In the Bettina and Trehan book Cole doesn't really portray Caspion as extremely likable so getting a piece of IAD dedicated solely to him and Mirceo was a little disappointing after such an IAD drought. B. Too many of Caspion's words reminded me of Jack ("stick to me like shadow") which just pissed me off because then I started thinking about Jack and how much longer I have to wait to read about him and Aric and Evie and, and do we even have a release date yet for that?!!!! Thirdly, no Nucking Futs. Nobody mentions her. Nobody tries to track her down. First time in IAD history that she doesn't appear. She doesn't even make a phone call to say that this is a Nix sanctioned union. So if we don't hear from Nix then is this relationship even important to the Accession and the true meat of the series? If not, then I ask again why is Cole wasting her time with something frivolous when there is so much to be done to properly settle this series. Hello,Munro! And Carafina has been waiting how many years for her human? I don't even know how I know she watches over a human but I know somehow and I'd like to get the rest of the story on that after 8-10 years! Even sweet Deshezier deserves his own novella over Caspion in mho. Now, of-course, we have to find out what happens to Kosmina which is a complication I don't think we needed. We found out in Rune and Jo's book that Mina had the plague so a part of me had hoped it would have ended as simply as her dying and Lothaire saying, "oops, my bad." I wish I could be Kresley's bff whom she listens to explicitly and I'd say to her, no don't write about that, write about this. No don't go on that vacay, stay home and write more Arcana chronicles. Oh, that pitch for a new series sounds wonderful, sweet friend, but perhaps you should start it after you finish IAD for all of your faithful, loyal readers whom have devoured every word you ever written 2-4 times! And while you are at it my dear Kresley, you should cut down your number of sleep hours and increase your number of writing hours so your readership doesn't have to wait so long in between hits of their Cole crack which causes fits of uncomfortable withdrawals.
In summary, it's not a swing and a miss. It is well written and it does its job. My husband will be a happy camper tonight when he gets home from his business trip just like he is after everything I read by Kresley. I just wish she had spent her time writing something with more import to the overall storyline.

Oh Mirceo!
By Julie Stam
What a ride! Mirceo and Caspion's story is one wild ride. Both are equally strong characters that approach their relationship in different ways. Mirceo with his clever tricky ways. Caspion with his strong denial and yet ultimate acceptance. As expected there are plenty of fireworks tastefully done in Kresley Cole's inimitable style and a surprise ending. I like the way the whole series is evolving. This novella has piqued my interest even more for the upcoming books.
