From Publishers Weekly
In stinging style, the author discusses such matters as alcohol and drug abuse by soap actors, on-set feuds and fights, romances and affairs and the impact of AIDS on soap performers. The book gives much space to top personalities, including Susan Lucci, Dorothy Lyman, Donna Reed, Larry Hagman and Jane Wyman, and one chapter offers portraits of "Dynasty dolls" Diahann Carroll, Joan Collins and Linda Evans. Bonderoff recounts the "infuriating treatment" the president of the Days of Our Lives fan club received from the show's cast and brass; examines how "soap writers and producers often find ways of exacting revenge on actors who get out of line"; and explores the careers of some performers who have left soaps. The book concludes with the "S.O.B. Awards"for example, "The Soap Hack-Writer Award" and "The Fear of Success Award." While never cutting as deeply as Kenneth Anger in Hollywood Babylon, Bonderoff outlines off-camera dramas in a way that will fascinate soap fans.

Soap Opera Babylon

While I have not read the entire book I did finish reading "The Real Dallas Feud" and I am not sure where the author Jason Bonderoff got his info from but he made some rather pretty big mistakes about how thing happened. One of them was about Donna Reed being let go from Dallas and her law suit, and I now quote from his book
Quote: Donna herself was angry enough to institute a lawsuit against her former bosses, but her war with Dallas proved futile. Just a few months after leaving the show, she was stricken with cancer and died before the year was out.
This statement is completely untrue, Ms. Reed did in fact win her law suite When Bel Geddes agreed to return to the role for the 1985-86 season, Reed was abruptly fired. She did sued the show's production company for breach of contract and the producers agreed settled out of court for over $2 million advised by their attorney's since they did in fact breach their contract. MS Reed died in Jan of 1986 seven month after the settlement which was paid to her before her death.
There are alot of other mistakes by this author to many to go into, but the book take it with a grain of salt, but all it is just gossip.

A tacky and fun read
By Robert Sanchez
"Soap Opera Babylon" is clearly modeled on the Kenneth Anger "Hollywood Babylon" series of books, but isn't near that salacious. It is a light read, recounting gossip about both daytime soap actors and primetime stars of Dynasty, Dallas, Falcon Crest, etc. Its first chapter, on how AIDS is terrifying daytime backstage, betrays its mid-'80s publication, with misinformation about the disease, but taken with a grain of salt in hindsight, is both appalling and yet entertaining. There are some "blind gossip" items about various soap actor misdeeds, but since they are unable to identify the perpetrators, it's not as interesting as the Hollywood horror stories in the Anger books. But there is enough recounted gossip about soap actors and behind-the-scenes of various shows to make for an entertaining, if somewhat slim, volume.
