This book is absurdly obvious. Like "work area should be well illuminated". Oh really? I did not know that. What would have been better is: For X type of work area, should be lit to Y luminous units of measurement. The Practice tests are similarly written. This is like an introductory guide. I'm sorry but at this price ( I paid well over 100$ ) I need more. Very disappointed in my professor.

Its a case of a book thats badly written. Trying to convince all whites are racist. Forget the fact that thousands of farmers have been tortured and murdered post 1994. All this book reminds me as a white person living in South Africa is that they won't stop until all of us are dead or gone, so that they can consume themselves! Perhaps its time to stand up agains reverse rascism........ Please don't buy this book or waste your money. People like Stuart Theobald that gave a 5 star review is a personal friend of Eusebius.... Nothing like rent a crowd

The language used in the book is my biggest problem ...

The language used in the book is my biggest problem because it excludes a lot of us who do not have a vast English vocabulary, let alone an academic one. For the importance I feel this book carries, I think the writer should have thought about the limit he was putting on his readership by the complex way he expressed some of his postulations.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Though there are arguments the author makes which I am not convinced by, on the whole McKaiser does a great job of exploring some of the complex race issues that South Africans are grappling with today. McKaiser has a philosopher's grip on argumentative structure, but a radio talk show's grip on narrative story telling. Together it makes for an effective style that is easy to read while challenging our beliefs and prejudices.

For white South Africans (like me) who recognise the massive injustice of the past and the very deep strands of racism that embed in our psychologies, this book is a very helpful, sometimes painful, effort at surgically dislodging them. For less self-reflective readers, that can be an unpleasant experience, as some of the reviews of this book on Amazon demonstrate. McKaiser is completely uncompromising in holding the racist responsible for their racism - but he opens a way out, a way to identify and understand race and the pain it inflicts, and to become part of the solution rather than the problem.

There are many things that are needed to deal with the ongoing harm of racism in South African society. This book is definitely one of them.

A Girl's Guide to Keeping Her Money.

I am always on the lookout for funny scripts for females to do for the Dramatic events in Debate. This book failed my expectations and hardly lived up to rave reviews. Maybe I'm a member of the wrong generation, but I didn't find any of the jokes funny and I found it boring and lacking in any depth at all. There's no plot, no solution, there's not even much characterization. I'd say if you'd like to buy a funny book, look somewhere else.

Classic historical DW...

A solid historical adventure from William Hartnell's era of Doctor Who. This was one of the many adventures that the BBC in their stupidity destroyed in the early 1970's. Thankfully, thanks to intelligent, dedicated fans of the day, the soundtrack exists in its entirety and is presented with linking narration that allows the theater of the mind to take over. Definitely worth purchasing for fans of Classic Doctor Who.

A great story that could have been better

I'm reviewing this work based on its technical merit rather than its content. As a fan of Doctor Who, having this piece of missing history is worth it, regardless of whether it is poor or not. The problem with this production is that the narrations, provided by Peter Perves (sp?) are short and rather nondescriptive. In listening, you are sometimes left a little confused as to who is who in the story. Some more detailed explainations are in order here.

One of history's darkest moments

This adventure is yet another prime classic among Doctor Who adventures for intelligent writing and powerful acting. This adventure takes place immediately after the events that the Doctor and Steven had experienced during the Daleks' Master Plan, as the TARDIS materializes in late 16th century France, a time of great religious strife as tensions continue to mount between the Catholics and the Protestants. This adventure is chocked filled with all sorts of intrigue, conspiracy, political and religious machinations and manipulations, moments of intense drama, this adventure truly captured the period and to a certain extent did an admirable job in fleshing out the details behind this particular moment in history.
in an unusual move, the one who is pretty much thrust into the spotlight in Peter Purves, who portrays Steven Taylor. For the Doctor leaves his company to meet with a legendary apothecary named Charles Preslin. Steven later befriends several of the Hugenots, including a young servant girl named Anne Chaplet, and embroiled in a plot to massacre all the French Protestants. To make matters worse, one of the people involved in the horrific plot is the Abbot of Amboise who bears an uncanny resemblance to the Doctor. Since neither the Doctor nor the Abbot are seen together at the same time, it increases and deepens the mystery as to whether the Abbot is the Doctor in disguise or if the Abbot is simply the Doctor's physical double.
William Hartnell did an extraordinary job as the Abbot, showing a calm, almost cold demeanor, with a very confident air of authority and restrained maliciousness, quite different to his portrayel of the Doctor.
Peter Purves became the star of this piece, and proved himself to be quite able to carry this adventure without being second fiddle to William Hartnell. his lack of understanding of the historical situations occurring around him, allow us the chance to experience these events as Steven perceives them, from a very fresh perspective. his anger towards the Doctor near the end for allowing Anne to possibly die in the ensuing chaos is definitely worth noting, for he is in his right to be angry and upset, but only because he lacks a certain level of understanding the Doctor's reasons. And the brief monologue given by the Doctor in the TARDIS console room when he is left alone for a few moments, is so moving as we get a real glimpse of the Doctor's vulnerable emotional side, and an understanding of his loneliness.
excellent acting, excellent story.

Should have been called womanhood 101!

The Reconversion of the Feminine Spirit

This book was so powerful and such an inspiration to me. This book addressed every woman regardless of where they are in their lives. In this book, Michelle talks alot about how we relate to men regardless of where we are in our lives. She reinforces the need for us to respect and honor men in general. She shows us how to utilize what God has given us as women, such as the power of influence. She discusses the proper use of it and the improper use of it, which is manipulation. The book is phenomenal. I found myself crying and repenting while I was reading it. One of my most enjoyable segments of this book was when she addressed the Christian, Single, Professional woman. She talks about us wearing these self-sufficient attitudes on our shoulders and that being all that men see when they meet us, when men indeed have a need to be needed. This blessed me because God had already begun to deal with me on presenting the beauty of who I am to a man and not all of my accomplishments. It was certainly confirmation. While she addressed the need for us to be submissive and honor men, she balances this by addressing the need for single women and married women to stop rescuing men and allow them to be men. She even addresses motherhood and women in leadership positions. The bottom line is that we can be ladies and feminine regardless of what situations we encounter.

Inspiring

From the very beginning of the book, I know that I was in class with the counseling spirit of God. I was so impressed with the subjects and how they fit into my life and into many lives of people I associate with. I know that this book is annointed to bring about change and a peace about making new decisions that bring honor and glory to God. I thank Michelle for having the grace to print it. I am sending it to about 5 people for Christmas. I believe that it is a seed that I will plant into some lives and God will supply all the nutrients needed to save some marriages and even change how single women see themselves. A MUST READ

Then one night he picks up a distress signal from Florida -- family stranded in flood -- and uses his skill for something more important. Barasch (Old Friends) identifies the hero of this story as her father, who in 1923 at the age of 10 became the youngest licensed amateur wireless radio operator in the United States. The book gets off to a bit of a slow start as Barasch describes the important role that wireless radio played at a time when telephone connections were difficult to make, but it builds to a climactic finish, in which the boy and his radio help to rescue a stranded family in hurricane-pummeled Florida. Writing in the boy's voice, the author conveys the young New Yorker's dedication to his hobby, how he obtains his "ham" license on his second try, purchases the necessary equipment and sets up his own home station with the help of an older neighbor boy and fellow operator. The author concisely describes this method of communication, which kids in today's high-tech world are likely to know little about. A heartening story for aspiring historians and technophiles. Grade 3-5-The year is 1923, and Robert can't wait to get his ham radio license. He practices Morse code wherever he goes, and listens in on radio traffic at every opportunity. When he finally gets his license and his own "shack," Robert spends his evenings communicating with radio operators all over the world. The tale has the slightly meandering quality of a family story-and well it should, as it is based on the memories of Barasch's father, the youngest amateur radio operator to be licensed in the U.S. at the time. Robert's adventures include having a group of sailors show up on his doorstep (not realizing that their radio pal was a 12-year-old boy) and, more dramatically, rescuing a family stranded in a Florida hurricane by passing along radio messages to the Coast Guard. This story will capture the imagination of youngsters, especially modern technophiles, who may be surprised to learn about the global communication spawned by wireless radio long before the Internet. The faded watercolor-and-ink illustrations capture the optimistic spirit of a bygone era and incorporate a good deal of information.

In a clear, first-person voice, the boy describes what Morse code is, how operators used wireless radios to send and receive signals, and his experiences setting up an in-house transmitting station. The boy finds fame when he picks up a signal from Florida hurricane victims and radios for help, and the story concludes with a reproduced newspaper photograph and the full Morse code alphabet. An introductory note reveals that the story is based on the author's father and gives readers background information on the era's telephones and the alternative that the wireless offered, including examples of how Morse code has been used throughout its history. In a well-designed mix of insets, brief sketches, and full-page drawings, the author's uncluttered color cartoons do an excellent job of illustrating the technology and the code, at the same time creating likable, expressive characters. Tehnology-minded children may see parallels between the freedom and excitement of the wireless and the Internet in this engaging read. Gillian Engberg

Great book for kids that are or may be interested in ham radio.

Buy this book and keep it on a shelf in your ham shack. If you run across a little kid who finds your private Valhalla of dials, knobs and blinking lights absolutely fascinating, give it to him or her. Sadly, these days, such kids are few and far between. Most of them, when shown a well-equipped ham station such as mine, yawn and wander off looking for the iPad. But every now and then, you run across a kid who gets it. This book is for them!

CQ - CQ - - Radio Rescue

The book is quite nice. My only issue is the rather light type faces used throughout the book. I believe that medium weight faces would be much easier for a child (or even an adult) to read.
The content is better than I expected. I have been a HAM/Radio Amateur for over 30 years, and know a bit about the subject. A good story, and a pleasant read.
I purchased this book for one of my young grandsons, as he is developing an interest in electricity and radio communication.
